About Us

Friends of the Shelter is an all-volunteer organization established to coordinate the fundraising activities that directly benefit the dogs of the Franklin County Dog Shelter

As a county facility, the Franklin County Dog Shelter is not allotted money directly from tax dollars. The operating income is generated by the sale of dog licenses as well as adoption and redemption fees.

With the blessing and guidance of FCDS staff, Friends of the Shelter was established. Now, individuals, families and corporations that wish to make a financial donation to the Franklin County Dog Shelter can be assured of the destination of their donation: the dogs.

Money raised by Friends of the Shelter is allocated to funds such as diagnostic services, medical/surgical care, infirmary services, dental care, grooming, behavioral services, training and enrichment activities that directly benefit the dogs of the Franklin County Dog Shelter.

In addition, Friends of the Shelter funds an innovative low cost spay and neuter program, The Fix. The Fix, available now at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, is the only program of its kind in Central Ohio. Its goal is to reduce the population of unwanted puppies and dogs while making responsible pet ownership an option to all.

As Friends of the Shelter is a 501c3 non-profit group, donations are tax-deductible.
