Happy Tails
Chloe

Meet Chloe (now known as Abby)
Chloe came to the Franklin County Dog Shelter suffering from Heartworms. Friends of the Shelter funded her treatment and recuperative care.
"Abby and I met in August and after a few weeks of adjusting, we are very happy! At first, she had some anxiety and separation issues, but once she realized I would always return and this was her forever home, she calmed down. No medication required! She is a sweet dog and has to be by my side at all times. She is pushing 60 lbs. but will crawl up in my lap and let me cuddle her like a baby! We go to the park and she plays with all the other dogs. She loves to chase her friends, squirrels or birds. She does really well on the leash and we run about 3-4 days a week. Recently, she completed a 10 mile run with me! She loves to swim but hates the sprinklers! She is very smart and I have to lock the back gate or she will open it in 2 seconds!
Since I lost Cooper (my golden retriever) in 2009, I had been hesitant to adopt another dog. I didn’t think I could ever find another dog that was as wonderful as Cooper, so deciding to adopt Abby was difficult for me. I’m so happy to have her in my life. And I believe she is equally happy!"
-Rebecca Walden, Abby's new owner

Zina

Meet Zina
Zina, a young, happy go lucky and active labrador retriever mix, suffered a broken leg. Thankfully, the injury only broke her leg and not her spirit. Friends of the Shelter paid for her surgery and recuperative care. After healing, she was looking for her forever home and found it.
"She’s been a great dog for us and has become my son’s best friend (and vice versa). She’s full of energy and lives life to the fullest every day. There’s never a dull moment when she’s around, which is great! We couldn’t be happier."
-Randy D., Zina's owner
Damien

Meet Damien (now known as Snickers)
Damien, a sweet, people pleasing and social boy, came to the Franklin County Dog Shelter at just 8 months old with both back legs broken after being hit by a car. Thanks to the Shelter's 24-hour emergency warden patrol, dedicated medical staff, and generous Friends of the Shelter donors, Damien received surgery and recuperative care. He was in foster care until he made a full recovery from his wounds.
Now that he's healed, Damien is helping his new owner heal from the pain of losing a loved one.
"(Damien) Snickers now has a home and is loving life. He fit right in with me and my mom, and my dad would have loved him, too. He definitely has filled the hole in my heart from losing my father to a stroke this past April. We renamed Damien to 'Snickers' after my dad's favorite candy bar. Thank you so much to all the donors and people at the shelter who have helped Snickers. It was definitely meant to be and I'm so happy! He is in really great health. You can't even tell he has been through so much! Snickers now has his happy ending. Thank you!"
-Kaitlyn Bland, Snicker's new owner
Franklin (Jumper)

Franklin (aka Jumper) came to the Franklin County Dog Shelter scared of the world around him - of a human touch, collar and leash, other dogs and cats, doorways, and even toys. After some time , this little young retriever mix learned to enjoy life and was soon adopted by his new parents, Parry and Judy.
"Franklin was fostered by one of the employees of Dr. Elizabeth Kinsel at Creature Comforts in Lancaster before he came to live with his forever family. Franklin served as the unofficial "office manager" at Creature Comforts and came to his new home house-broken and well-trained. We really could not have asked for a better companion after the loss of our eleven-year-old rescue dog, Lizzie, an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. Franklin found a place in our hearts when we first met him, and, when we took him home, knew he was a perfect fit." -Parry & Judy
Franklin enjoys meeting new people and is very well-mannered. He loves playing outside, particularly games of fetch, and has a growing collection of toys, which he puts to good use. He likes his independence, but is also a cuddler.
Berg

Meet BERG.
Berg came to the Franklin County Dog Shelter as a stray with a badly fractured back leg. Friends of the Shelter funded Berg's orthopedic surgery and recuperative care. Once healed, Berg was looking for his new, forever home - then he met Kayleigh.
Berg's new owner, Kayleigh, says he is doing great in his new home!
"He is a perfect addition to our family. Berg and our other Jack Russell, Pickles, that we also adopted from the Franklin County Animal Shelter, are getting along well and enjoy running and playing outside together. Berg is such a happy guy, especially after having to deal with all of the medical issues he had to go through. We are happy to have him and now it is hard to imagine life without him."

Kayleigh also says Berg has started attending training classes and is a very quick learner. He's a full-of-energy terrier who's always entertaining to watch.
Pibbles

Meet PIBBLES.
Pibbles first came to the shelter in July of 2010 and was picked up as a stray. He had an birth defect and was unable to digest food. Friends of the Shelter funded Pibbles' life-saving surgery. Just six-weeks later, he had nearly fully recovered and was able to join central Ohioans jogging in the 5K for K9s!
Pibbles was adopted by Bethany in October, just after the 5K, and is now known as Mr. Pibb.
"He is my miracle dog. He is such a fun and loving dog and fits in perfectly with his three K-9 sisters. He is a cuddle bug and loves to lay on the back of the sofa, like a cat. Without the help of Friends of the Shelter and his foster home with Dr. Libby, Mr. Pibb would not have the good life that he has now. He is such a great and loving dog. Pibbles gets just as much love back as he gives out, so this is for sure a win/win situation for this little guy. Thank you Franklin County Dog Shelter and thank you Friends of the Shelter. And, thank you Libby!!!!! We love you all!" -Bethany and Pibbles
Dottie

Meet DOTTIE. She's cute, perky, playful and easy to please.
Dottie initially received treatment funded by FOTS for non-responsive giardia last fall. She went through a lot of testing and treatments for chronic diarrhea, as well. She has made nearly a 100% recovery from her bowel issues since being diagnosed with 'boxer colitis', aka histiocytic ulcerative colitis. For this, she'll require a lifelong special diet and potentially intermittent courses of antibiotics - but the opportunity to live a good life. During her FOTS-funded testing and treatments, Dottie was found to be deaf. She is also very sensitive to the sun and can burn easily.
Dottie loves to play with other dogs, go for walks and hang out on the couch. She's a trooper and loves living her doggie-dog life.

Dottie was recently adopted through FCDS by her new, loving family. They have stepped up to meet Dottie's health needs and can't imagine life without her.
'(Dottie's) been making herself at home quite nicely. We had a little welcome dinner for her tonight. Our families came over to meet her and
they absolutely loved her!!! She must have been worn out from the excitement today because she passed out on top of Emma.'
Congratulations on your new home, Dottie!
Addi
You may remember little ADDI. She was one of our video stars in 2010. Addi came to the Shelter with a leg injury so severe, her leg had to be amputated. But having 3 legs hasn't slowed her down. Addi is enjoying her new life with the Javorsky Family. She enjoys catch and football with 7-year-old Michael and 4-year-old Emma. Addi is also quite the snuggle-bug.
Be sure to watch Addi's touching video. Click here!
